One Family’s Home-School Adventure

From toddler time to drop off at the college dorm to family run businesses and lives thousands of miles apart – this is one family’s “start to finish” story of home schooling. Living in Graceland; a 1500 sq ft home in  a small lakeside village of Upstate NY, one young Mom and Dad set out to raise two upstanding young men. Reading, writing and ‘rithmatic were a part of their days, but self discovery and understanding their own gifts and talents were the priorities. Figuring out faith along the way as a family and following the call wherever it was heard. Messianic Judaism for one, the other his own brand of Catholicism – both adding to their spiritual quests heaping doses of Tolkien, Lewis, and throwing in Comic Book mythos, D&D, and Harry Potter to boot. Meeting eclectic Unschoolers, Creationists, Atheists and even some Moderates on the path, helping to create a Home School Cooperative with more than 30 other families, lack of socialization was not a problem for these kids. From camping adventures all over New York State to packing up and moving to an island 6 miles off the coast of Massachusetts, this story of “home” schooling shows that the world is truly our classroom, that learning should happen everyday amongst us all –  from cradle to grave.
